FIFA summit brings together football executives

Istanbul hosted a FIFA summit yesterday, bringing together presidents and senior executives of member federations of the international football body. FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Turkish Football Federation President Yıldırım Demirören were scheduled to hold a joint press conference about the summit when Daily Sabah went to print.

The summit is part of international football body's round of meetings to bring together member associations and the first summit was held in Baku, the capital city of Turkey's neighbor Azerbaijan, on Nov. 21.

The meetings were held to discuss "strategic matters for the future of the game," according to a statement on FIFA's website. The summits will conclude in March next year with a gathering in Lima, Peru. FIFA started the summit series last year "to offer a platform of exchange and encourage greater participation of FIFA's 211 member associations in the strategic decisions of the organization," the statement says. Focus on this year's summits will be on a debate on the future of FIFA's youth and women's competitions as well as FIFA Forward development program. Participants will also discuss the transfer system and the international match calendar.
