Brazilian star striker Neymar Jr. purchased 5,000 lottery tickets to support second-tier Turkish club Boluspor, its president Necip Çarıkçı said Monday.

Neymar received the tickets from Boluspor captain and former Brazil international Andre Santos, who was invited to the PSG winger's birthday party in Paris.

"Our team captain Santos took 5,000 tickets to France. He gave 5,000 tickets to his best friend Neymar. Neymar supported our club by buying 75,000 [Turkish] liras ($19,700) worth of Boluspor Lottery tickets," Çarıkçı said.

He added, however, that despite sales continuing, there is not much demand for the tickets.

Facing financial problems, Boluspor organized the lottery to find new income-generating sources for itself.

The lottery drawing will be held on Feb. 28.

Neymar, who switched from Spanish giants Barcelona to PSG this summer for an all-time record transfer fee of 222 million euros ($272 million), is believed to be the highest paid player in the world.
