Turkish goalkeeper’s rare extra time goal brings 1 point to 2nd division team

A Turkish goalkeeper taking a great risk in the last seconds of a Turkish second division match has scored the goal that brought one point that his team desperately needed.

Grand Medical Manisaspor were the hosts of Denizlispor on Saturday for the crucial Spor Toto 1. Lig match between the two western Turkish clubs battling to save themselves from the relegation zone.

The first 21 minutes of the match saw three goals with Denizlispor enjoying a 2-1 lead until the extra time.

21-year-old goalkeeper Mehmet Göktuğ Bakırbaş, who had already displayed a spectacular performance with 10 saves throughout the match, joined his teammates in the penalty area for a last corner shot to be used by Manisaspor.

Bakırbaş, on loan from Turkish Super League club Göztepe, managed to score on the rear pillar right before the final whistle, bringing the score to 2-2.

Both Denizlispor and Manisaspor are former Super League clubs and they are well known to Turkish football enthusiasts.
