The Sawa Autism Center, based in the Reyhanlı district of the southern province of Hatay was recently opened, exclusively to offer autism therapy for Syrian refugee children.The center is open five days a week, and two specialists currently offer treatment to 15 Syrian autistic children, aged between five and 12. Yusuf İdris, the center's general therapist, said that the center is working to introduce these children to social life."Our treatment service is free of charge. We take them from home with our shuttle bus and bring them to the center," said İdris, adding that the children also enjoy art workshops and games under the guidance of physicians. İdris said that autistic children need special attention, and social and sports activities help them to re-integrate themselves into society.
