Hong Kong’s women take over average life expectancy lead from Japanese

The women of Hong Kong have taken over the longest average life expectancy title from their Japanese fellows with 87.32 years.

Japan-based Kyodo News Agency reported that Japanese women's average life expectancy of 87.05 years was recently surpassed by the women of Hong Kong.

Japan's record cannot be maintained due to the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and subsequent tsunami, which also led to a nuclear disaster in the town of Fukushima.

Japanese women were holding this record since 1985.

According to the data provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), Spain follows Hong Kong and Japan with 85.58 years of average life expectancy for women. South Korea and Japan rank fourth and fifth with 85.5 and 85.2 years.

This number is around 79 years for Turkish women.
