After being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease seven years ago, a woman in Balıkesir province is conquering the disease through embroidery classes. A 60-year-old mother of three, Güner Özgenlik signed up for an embroidery class at the Public Education Center in the district of Burhaniye through the encouragement of her loved ones.

The retired teacher picked up embroidery quickly and managed to "almost" beat her disease. "I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2010," said Özgenlik and continued: "My children live far away. I was very stressed and always worried about what I would become. Then, I discovered a way to fight my disease. I told myself that I can beat it."

Four years after Özgenlik began to fight Parkinson's, her cell renewal increased. "I owe my recovery to my friends. I am happy to spend time with them in embroidery classes. I am determined to beat this disease once and for all," Özgenlik said. An embroidery trainer at the Public Education Center where Özgenlik attends, Kezban Kiraz, also said Özgenlik's devotion stands out among other the trainees. "She gets along with her friends very well. This course has been very good for her. We are joyfully working together," Kiraz concluded.
