The UNESCO Chair at Kadir Has University (KHAS) will offer a two-week summer course to international and Turkish students focusing on world heritage. Open to post-graduate students from diverse fields like the social sciences, media studies, architecture, governance and computer science, the first week of the course will focus on theoretical concepts, while students will spend the second week in İzmir's Bergama district in the ancient city of Pergamum. The summer school will include two major modules: Management of World Heritage Sites and New Media and Applications. KHAS announced in a statement that the curriculum will cover different "contemporary issues and themes cutting across the designated modules."The main topics will be management of world heritage sites, management planning, cultural landscapes, historic urban landscape approaches, community involvement, new media applications, visitor management and local governance. The summer course will run from June 15 to June 29 and will include the participation of the KHAS faculty and various others faculties and research centers as well as guest lecturers from outside the university. KHAS established the UNESCO Chair in January in collaboration with UNESCO's Director-General Irina Bokova, who discussed "Safeguarding the Past for a Better Future for All" within the framework of UNESCO's 70th anniversary.
