Plot to assassinate Erdoğan’s daughter being probed
The Ankara Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a probe into the allegations of an assassination plot against Sümeyye Erdoğan. The claimed attempt was unveiled in the alleged texting between the main opposition Republican's People Party (CHP) Istanbul deputy, Umut Oran, and the notorious Fuat Avni Twitter account, which is believed to be being controlled by Gülenist columnist Emre Uslu. The prosecutor's office launched an investigation into whether the claims were founded. The Bureau of Crimes against the Constitutional Order will conduct the investigation.A controversial Twitter figure named Fuat Avni, which is known to be a fabricated account affiliated with and used by the Gülen Movement to allegedly give exclusive information, shares predictions that occasionally come true. The exclusive information that turns out to be true has created doubts that the Gülenists are present in the government's key bodies, and obtain confidential information via illegal means. Turkish media outlets reported on Monday that Usla, a former police officer and a well-known figure of the Gülen Movement, is behind the controversial social media accounts that uses the Fuat Avni name.Over the past several days, Akşam and Star dailies reported scandalous private messages between Avni and Gülenist police officers, and also two parliamentarians from the CHP.In one of the Twitter conversations with a Gülenist police officer, Avni is reportedly saying that the movement holds sex tapes of 45 CHP deputies and they all are stored by Gülen himself. In another alleged private message, Avni told Oran that the movement is wiretapping President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, and it will publish recordings to achieve electoral success for the CHP. Oran denied the allegations and said he did not have a conversation with the movement's anonymous Twitter user. The claims led to a crisis within the CHP, which collaborated with the movement during the last local and presidential elections to end Erdoğan's leadership. The CHP's former Executive Board (MYK) member and adviser to former CHP leader Deniz Baykal, Savcı Sayan, said that the party had been under Gülenist control for over four years. He added that he previously proved that Baykal's sex-tape, which led to his resignation, was plotted by the movement, and remarked that the current CHP administration did not pay attention to his warnings. Former CHP deputy Şahin Mengü also criticized his party for allowing Gülenist infiltrators to control an almost century-old party.Meanwhile Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ, in an interview with A Haber, said that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan informed him about the assassination plot against his daughter Sümeyye Erdoğan one month ago."Mr. President [Erdoğan] mentioned the [assassination] issue regarding Ms. Sümeyye [Erdoğan] one month ago in one of my visits to him. It is a terrible incident, but the public prosecutor's office launched an investigation. What is necessary will hopefully be done," Bozdağ said.
