Ditch on Syrian border to protect against smugglers

The Turkish Army began excavating a ditch on the Turkish-Syrian border yesterday to prevent smuggling. The ditch is located in Nusaybin, a town opposite of Syria's Qamishli, and is being built in an area filled with landmines. Turkish media reported that the ditch would be used both against smugglers and illegal border crossings from Turkey into Syria. Last year, a security wall - a portable concrete mass blocking access - was erected on the Turkish-Syrian border to prevent smuggling. The 9-ton wall can be easily dismantled and moved to new locations as well.
