German executive acquitted in mall construction deaths
A Turkish court acquitted Andreas Michael Hohlmann, the top executive of a German mall developer, in a trial over the deaths of 11 workers in Istanbul during the construction of a shopping mall. Hohlmann and 12 others were charged with negligence in work safety resulting in the deaths of workers who were burned to death when their lodges at the site caught fire. Seven defendants, including owners and employees of a subcontractor of the mall construction, were handed prison terms of up to 10 years on the same charge.
