Police detain 8 YDG-H suspects in Istanbul anti-terror raids


Turkish police on Thursday have detained eight suspects in dawn anti-terror operations targeting the PKK's youth wing YDG-H in Istanbul. Anti-terror squads, backed up by helicopters raided 15 locations in three districts of the city; Eyüp, Fatih and Küçükçekmece on the European side, according to police sources.Eight suspects, who are thought to be members of the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H), were held while many organizational documents were seized during the raids.Turkey has been carrying out operations against the PKK-considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and U.S.-inside and outside of the country since July 24. Police in Istanbul conduct operations almost every day.Since then, more than 180 members of the security forces have been martyred and over 1,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq, including airstrikes.The YDG-H has been responsible for various terrorist attacks, including the recent murder of the Chairman of Diyarbakır Bar Association Tahir Elçi.On August 7, the YDG-H raided a wedding in southeastern Diyarbakır province and attacked police forces with stun grenades and fireworks. Turkish police launched large-scale investigations to capture the masked and armed terrorists which fled the region after the attack.Previously on July 7, Turkish Police detained 11 suspects in connection with the PKK's youth movement group (YDG-H) in operations carried out in three cities throughout Turkey.
