Mystery looms over businessman’s murder in Istanbul


Gökhan Arıcan, a 35-year old businessman, was found dead with a single bullet wound on the back of his neck in a car in Istanbul's Kağıthane district on late Friday.Witnesses said that after a gunshot, a man left the car and escaped from the scene in a white vehicle which was waiting right behind the car in which Arıcan was murdered. A patrolling police unit realized the car and stopped by to check on Arıcan, and the white car left the scene at that moment despite the officers' effort to stop the car.Reports claimed that Arıcan was working as an executive in a company that installs sirens and flashers to vehicles. His body was transferred to the Forensic Medicine morgue for examination.Arıcan's wife and several of his colleagues were detained Saturday as part of the investigation. In the initial police statements suspects pointed out to a love murder.State-run Anadolu Agency reported that the car, in which Arıcan was shot, is also the official car rented by the Republican People's Party Istanbul deputy Gamze Akkuş İlgezdi.However, İlgezdi dismissed the reports on Saturday through a press statement and said that she or her acquintances did not use the car ever. She added that she reserve the right to press charges.
