Police detained Dilek Kaya, a suspected member of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) terrorist organization in a southeastern city yesterday. Kaya was among the suspects linked to last year's bombing in Istanbul's Sultanahmet district that killed a police officer. She was on a list of wanted potential suicide bombers.

A police officer was killed when a suicide bomber initially thought to be a member of the DHKP-C struck a police post in Istanbul in January 2015. The suicide bomber was later revealed to be a woman affiliated with DAESH.

The DHKP-C is known for assigning terminally ill or elderly members to suicidal missions. One such suicide bomber blew up himself at the entrance of the U.S. embassy in Ankara in 2013, killing a Turkish security guard.

Police were on alert against the terrorist organization after it was reported several members of the group infiltrated Turkey from Greece where they were released last year after a brief detention. Two militants, one male, one female, planning to carry out attacks were captured in the western province of Aydın where they arrived by boat from Greece secretly. Two other DHKP-C members who are believed to have sneaked into the country from Greece are still on the run.
