Istanbul police seize nearly $650,000 in operation against Gülenist terror organization

Istanbul police seized on Friday two million Turkish liras (nearly $650,000) during an anti-terror operation launched against members of the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ).

The operation was launched in Istanbul's Pendik district on a car parked in a building's parking lot, based on a suspect linked to FETÖ, the organization which is accused of orchestrating the July 15 failed coup attempt in Turkey.

The money, which is believed to be benevolence payments, was hidden in the car's front tires and in its trunk.

Recently, Istanbul Police Department units from the Directorate of Anti-smuggling and Organized Crime Branch had conducted an operation against a suspect from FETÖ, where they seized 50 million TL (nearly $16 million) worth of checks and TL 3.5 million ($1.16 million) in cash.
