Police launches largest FETÖ operation against officers
Law enforcers in Turkey have launched a broad operation, the largest of its kind so far, against operatives from the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) within the military and security forces, with raids across the country detaining some 530 suspects over the weekend.
In the operations, carried out in 58 of Turkey's 81 provinces, over 100 suspects were detained on Saturday.
According to reports, the suspects, 280 commissioned and 250 noncommissioned officers, were known to have used the mobile telephone messaging application Bylock, which was cracked by
Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (MİT) before the FETÖ's failed coup attempt on July 15.
The application, developed and exclusively used by the FETÖ operatives, was used by the group and its members' for internal communications.
Hundreds of police officers were involved in the anti-terror operation, which was coordinated by Istanbul Counterterrorism Prosecutor İsmail Uçar.
An Istanbul court issued the arrest warrants for the suspects accused of being members of the FETÖ, the shadowy group headed by fugitive Fetulllah Gülen, who currently resides in his expansive compound in Pennsylvania, U.S.
