The Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) discharged on Monday 227 judges and prosecutors as part of investigations launched against the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ).

With the newest dismissals, the total number of judges and prosecutors discharged since the failed coup has reached 3,886.

Meanwhile, the HSYK ordered an inquiry against Antalya Deputy Public Prosecutor Cevdet Kayafoğlu over his alleged social media posts about the upcoming referendum on the constitutional reform package.

FETÖ, led by U.S.-based Fetullah Gülen, is accused of leading the deadly July 15 failed coup attempt and infiltration of the Turkish military and state institutions with aims to topple the democratically elected government

The terror group has also been accused of infiltrating positions in law enforcement and the judiciary. Gülenist prosecutors assigned to multiple cases were subjected to the nationwide purges following two previous FETÖ coup attempts disguised as an anti-graft probe. Judges and prosecutors who were involved in the probes and sham trials intended to imprison those who criticized the FETÖ have either been removed from duty or reassigned to lower positions, while some face prison terms in ongoing trials.
