Over 113,000 under detention as part of FETÖ probe: minister

A total of 113,260 suspects have been detained and 47,155 arrested in operations against the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ), Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu confirmed Sunday.

The minister said the number of arrests, which stood at around 45,155, was "significant."

"Almost 41,499 individuals have been placed under judicial control and released and some 23,861 have been released. On the other hand, there are 863 fugitives as yet. Of the FETÖ suspects detained 10,732 of them are policemen and 7,463 are military personnel, including 168 generals. There are also 2,575 suspects who are either judges or prosecutors. Meanwhile, 26,177 of them are civilians and 208 are local government officials," Soylu clarified.

Since December 2013, when FETÖ emerged as the perpetrator of two coup attempts against the democratically elected government, the terror group has been regarded as a security threat.

Prosecutors claim that FETÖ has waged a lengthy campaign to topple the government through its infiltrators in law enforcement, the judiciary, bureaucracy and the military.
