Police units in Istanbul made the largest-ever cocaine bust in Turkey's largest city as they seized a 212-kilogram shipment on Tuesday.

Following a tip-off, customs anti-smuggling and anti-narcotics units launched a raid on a ship in the Ambarlı Port.

A suspicious container, which departed from Brazil and came to Istanbul from Spain, was dispatched for X-ray scanning.

The container was opened and 212 kilograms of cocaine packed in 193 bags were found hidden behind suitcases.

An investigation to capture the suspects related to the bust is underway.
