Authorities announced that Ercan Kızılateş, who was detained and released pending trial for assaulting 21-year-old Asena Sağlam on an Istanbul bus last week, faces charges of inciting hatred, insult and inflicting injury.

He was detained for another crime over the weekend.

The incident was caught on video and sparked an outcry after Sağlam spoke to the media on Tuesday, as this is the second such incident in less than a year when a woman has been assaulted by a man on a bus in Istanbul, apparently for "wearing an inappropriate outfit."

Sağlam was wearing shorts, as was Ayşegül Terzi, a nurse who was kicked in the face by a man critical of her outfit in September 2016.
