A prosecutor's office in Istanbul launched an investigation concerning hate speech and discrimination after the owner of a hotel in the vacation resort of Antalya said in an interview that he does not want burkini-wearing customers to visit his hotel.

Yeni Şafak daily quoted Fetih Yılmaz Sezer as saying that he does not want women wearing burkinis to visit his Club Grand Aqua hotel in the Manavgat district of Antalya for "hygiene reasons." He claimed women wearing burkinis pollute the swimming pools in his hotel and "draw reactions" from other guests.

Sezer's comments echo a similar defense of operators of a pool in Marseile, France. A Muslim woman wearing a burkini who went to a community pool in Marseille was told to leave and pay fees to clean the facilities, claiming that her swimsuit was not hygienic.
