Thieves who stole belongings of Turkish FM's wife arrested in Philippines

Four thieves who had stolen personal belongings of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu's wife in Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport was arrested Thursday by Philippine police.

According to information gathered from local news sources, the thieves stole various pieces of Hülya Çavuşoğlu's jewelry.

Çavuşoğlu's wife only realized that her belongings were stolen after she arrived in the hotel.

Following the incident, the couple informed the Turkish embassy in Manila about the theft.

Ed Monreal, the director of Manila International Aviation Unit, said in a statement that the four thieves had been arrested, and the suspects pleaded guilty after arrest.

The box containing the jewelry was reportedly found in the personal locker of an airport employee.

FM Çavuşoğlu was in the Philippines last week to attend an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting.
