A French citizen detained on the Iraqi border last month on terror charges was released by a Turkish court on Friday.

The 26-year-old man's lawyers said "we have the satisfaction to announce that he is being freed" while Christophe Deloire, of Reporters Without Borders, said on Twitter than Bureau's release was "imminent" and he would return to Paris on Saturday.

Loup Jean Rene Bureau was detained at the Habur border post in the southeastern province of Şırnak on the Iraqi-Turkish border on the suspicion of aiding and abetting the People's Protection Units (YPG) terrorist organization, which Ankara deems the Syrian offshoot of the PKK terrorist organization.

As a result of initial investigations, it was determined that the Bureau had photographs that were taken with the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the YPG, as well as video recordings and documents with their propaganda, advertising the branch of the terrorist organization.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
