Over 100 kilograms of heroin seized in eastern Turkey


More than 100 kilograms of heroin was seized during anti-drug operations in Turkey's eastern province of Van on the border with Iran, the local police department said yesterday.

In a statement, Van Provincial Police Department said the operation targeted the drug traffickers who are funding the PKK/KCK terrorist group in Başkale and Edremit districts.

In Başkale district, anti-narcotics teams seized more than 92 kilograms of heroin from a vehicle on Van-Hakkari highway. During the operation, seven suspects were also apprehended on charges of "drug trafficking," the statement read.

In Edremit district, police confiscated over 8.8 kilograms of heroin hidden in a pillow in a truck. Two suspects, including the driver, were also detained during the operation, the statement added.
