Turkish security forces seize over a ton of hashish

Turkish security forces seized more than a ton of hashish in the southeastern Diyarbakır province, said the provincial governor's office yesterday.

In a statement, the office said around 1,261 kilograms (2,780 pounds) of hashish and 508,737 cannabis plants were seized in a three-day operation spanning 26 different locations.

It is believed the narcotics belonged to the terrorist organization PKK. During the operation, two rural shelters and a cave used by the PKK, along with 50 kilograms of ammonium nitrate used for bomb making were destroyed.

The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU.
