Police in Istanbul and the western city of Yalova captured 44 people in operations against the terrorist group Daesh yesterday.

Police raided houses in the Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Fatih, Beylikdüzü and Ümraniye districts of Istanbul, rounding up 28 foreigners and five Turkish nationals. The nationalities of the foreigners were not disclosed. Police sources said the suspects were "preparing to carry out attacks."

In Yalova, police carried out an operation against Daesh suspects accused of recruiting militants for the group. Media outlets reported that the suspects organized meetings in "worship places" as the group's members call them, and accommodated foreign recruits for the group. An Egyptian and an Azerbaijani national were among the captured suspects.
