Police have arrested three individuals who posed as police officers investigating Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) to scam people, according to İhlas News Agency.

The trio allegedly stole gold and cash worth TL 850,000 ($141,338) from innocent people, who believed that they were being investigated for FETÖ links.

The group came to the police's attention last Wednesday after a woman, identified by her initials as A.Ş., from Turkey's Black Sea province of Kastamonu, lodged a complaint.

She claimed to have given one of the suspects TL 300,000 in cash, and gold coins worth more than TL 100,000. Then she gave the same person another TL 76,000, $1,750 and 1,630 euros on the same day. The suspects then went to the Aegean province of Balıkesir, where they took TL 300,000 from another victim.

The Kastamonu Police Department said that the trio was later arrested in Şanlıurfa, near the Syrian border, with TL 370,000, $1,750 and 1,630 euros.
