Former police chief jailed over FETÖ links

A court in the western Turkish province of Manisa handed down a 10-year prison sentence to Mehmet Deniz, former chief of police intelligence in the province, for membership in the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) and violation of privacy.

Deniz was among four defendants, all police officers, who were on trial both for FETÖ membership and illegal wiretapping for FETÖ using police resources.

FETÖ, accused of carrying out the July 15, 2016 coup attempt, is accused of infiltrating into law enforcement, the military, the judiciary and the bureaucracy and using these infiltrators to carry out its criminal deeds.
