German woman jailed on terror charges

A court in northwestern Turkey sentenced Saide İnaç, a German woman of Turkish origin, to six years and three months in prison on terrorism charges.

İnaç was in the northwestern city of Edirne, in a campaign bus for a political party affiliated with the terrorist group PKK, when the police stopped the bus and detained her in June. A singer living in Cologne who is also known as Hozan Cane, İnaç, denied charges that she was a member of the PKK and claimed it was not her who shared pro-PKK propaganda online as the prosecutors claimed.

The court ordered her imprisonment on "membership of a terrorist organization," which carries the lowest sentence among other terror-related crimes.
