The state-run Turkish Human Rights and Equality Agency (TİHEK) has fined a publisher and a job website for posting a scandalous job ad, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.

In June, Destek Yayıncılık posted a job advertisement that barred headscarf-wearing individuals from applying. The ad stirred up controversy in a country where headscarf-wearing women have long been discriminated against.

The ad was quickly removed and the publisher had to issue an apology though it blamed a recruitment employee for the ad.

TİHEK slapped the publisher with a TL 3,000 ($554) fine for the violation of bans on discrimination while the website that hosted the ad was fined TL 1,000.
