Turkish security forces yesterday arrested 45 suspects, including serving members of the Turkish military, for their suspected links to the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ).

Earlier, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued arrest warrants for the 64 individuals. The warrants for 30 people, including 19 serving officers, were issued for their suspected links to the FETÖ network nested in the Turkish Air Force.

The prosecutor's office issued arrest warrants for the remaining 34 suspects on charges of "being a member of an armed terrorist organization." FETÖ is accused of orchestrating the July 15, 2016, coup attempt that killed 251 people. The suspects were sought for allegedly using ByLock, an encrypted smartphone application used by the coup plotters.

Following the warrants, the counterterrorism department of the police held 45 suspects. The police are continuing operations to arrest the remaining suspects.

Separately, the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also issued arrest warrants for 37 people, including 22 on-duty military personnel for their suspected links to the FETÖ network. The counterterrorism teams of the Izmir Police Department launched operations in 15 provinces.
