Tram derailed due to heavy snowfall in Istanbul

A tram that runs along the European side of Istanbul derailed on Wednesday morning due to the heavy snowfall that has been troubling the city since Tuesday.

Serving between Habibler and Topkapı districts, the tram on the T4 line, which is the fourth most used tram system in Istanbul, derailed between Fetihkapı and Topkapı stops.

Tram services were delayed for a while following the incident. There are still reportedly no services between Fetihkapı and Topkapı, which are one stop apart, but the line between Habibler and Fetihtepe remains open.

Meanwhile, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has confirmed that a pylon which fell on one of the busiest highways of the city, D-100 Highway, in Küçükçekmece district on Wednesday night, has been removed after the lane in the direction of Edirne was shut for a while. Dozens of lorries which were stuck on TEM highway for hours were later removed with the help of a lifting crane.

Municipal staff and the fire station are currently working to remove many fallen trees on Istanbul's roads which are blocking traffic.
