The historical Harem coach station on Istanbul's Asian side, which was built in 1970 and served as main hub to bus routes for Anatolia, will be removed and relocated to Ataşehir district by 2017.According to Burçin Göktan's article published in Akşam daily, the new coach station will be able to handle 10,000 buses and 250,000 passengers on a daily basis.Located at the westernmost end of state road D-100's Asian section, which runs from Istanbul up to the Iranian border, Harem coach station has become increasingly surrounded by urban swelling in Istanbul's Asian side and lost its proximity to highways and ring roads. The coach station also disrupts the traffic between Üsküdar and Kadıköy, two main districts of Istanbul's Asian side, while the Asian exit of Eurasia Tunnel will further increase traffic in the area.The new coach station in Ataşehir will relieve the traffic in Istanbul's Asian side and the relocation of Harem coach station will allow for a more comprehensive plan to redevelop Harem-Haydarpaşa axis that lost its importance for logistics.Ataşehir coach station will be located just east of the E80 motorway and O1-O2 connection road intersection and will replace a former animal shelter.Nine mini coach stations will also be built to relieve the bus traffic and overload in existing coach stations, especially during public holidays. New coach stations will be located in Esenler, Sefaköy, Bahçeşehir and Silivri on the European side, and Kavacık, İMES, Ataşehir and Pendik on the Asian side.
