Turkish court grants joint custody of cat to couple

A Turkish court has given equal guardianship of the couple's cat to both sides, with the pet rotating houses in intervals of three months.

Y. T. (31) and O. E. K. (33) applied to the Istanbul domestic relations court for divorce after a three-year long marriage. Neither party asked from each other a compensation/indemnity, but they wanted to share the cat's guardianship.

The court has decided that Y. T. and O. E. K. take joint custody of the cat named "Zuzu", with each looking after the pet for a three month period, after which the other person would get temporary ownership.

Cats, however, are known to react very poorly to changes (especially their sleeping places), preferring to conduct the same patterns in their routine lives, so hopefully, the joint custody will not lead to psychological stress for Zuzu!
