US Vice President Joe Biden's wife Jill Biden visited one of the top brands of baklava's Karaköy branch on Saturday to try out the Turkish delicacy, while his husband was holding a meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at Mabeyn Palace in Istanbul. During her Istanbul trip, Jill Biden was accompanied by her granddaughter Naomi Biden and U.S. Ambassador John Bass's wife Holly Holzer Bass, and the U.S. Istanbul Embassy Coordinator Selda Şerifsoy Çakır. Biden stopped by Güllüoğlu's Karaköy branch in Istanbul's Beyoğlu neighborhood during her trip, where she learned about traditional Turkish sweets. The visit to the shop was planned to take about five minutes but lasted for about 40 minutes, as Biden reportedly tried almost every kind of sweet at the place, with the pistachio baklava being her favorite. The company's CEO Nadir Güllü, who was present at the shop during Biden's visit told the reporters: "She [Biden] came with her granddaughter. They bought about 40 kg of products. The White House will definitely have enough of baklava. She [Biden] said, 'I am taking [these] to White House.'""I gave [the baklava] in boxes with Turkish flags on them. She asked about the ingredients and the making of it. She ate chocolate baklava. I said, 'Let's give Turkish and American societies a message with your visit.' She hugged and embraced me, and shook our [baking] masters' hands one by one," the CEO said.
