Death toll in Istanbul suicide attack rises to 11 after victim succumbs to wounds

The death toll from the Istanbul suicide bombing on Jan. 12 has risen to 11 after one of the wounded victims died on Tuesday night in Berlin where she was being treated for her injuries, reports said.Birgit B., 63, who was among the wounded, was transferred to a hospital in the German capital after initial treatment in Istanbul. The woman's health condition worsened, however, and she died on Tuesday night.Her 72-year-old husband, Adolf G., was among those who were killed in the attack that had initially left 10 dead and 15 wounded. The couple came to Istanbul from German on Jan. 11 along with 27 other German tourists who were on a short world tour. They were planning to travel to Dubai on the second leg of their tour. However, on the morning of Jan. 12, a suicide bomber said to have links to DAESH blew himself up near the group of tourists as they were visiting Istanbul's historic Sultanahmet square. Reports later revealed that all of the bombing victims were German. Turkey has rounded up dozens of suspects linked to suicide bomber Nabil Fadli in the wake of the attack and the German police have sent a team of experts to work with local law enforcement in the investigation. Germany is conducting its own investigation into rumors that the suicide bomber deliberately targeted German citizens.Istanbul, a city famous for its historical tourist attractions and the Bosporus Strait, hosted more than 12 million foreign tourists last year, the majority of them German citizens.
