Turkish woman gets 5 months in jail after ripping tree from ground to park car

A woman in Istanbul's Tuzla district received a five-month jail term after ripping a tree from the ground to park her car.According to Anatolia Criminal Courth of First Instances's justified decision, Nuray Kiraz cut down the tree to park her car near her residential address in the Güzelyalı neighbourhood of Tuzla district.

The Anadolu Agency reported the court saying that the defendant pleaded guilty and paid for the expenses to the city, and a complaint was filed against her for damaging trees in public property.

The woman was initially sentenced to a year in prison, but as she paid for the expenses and displayed good behavior during the proceedings, the sentence was brought down to five months as the court also considered the long term affects of the jail term on the woman.

Later, the court decided to deferment the announcement of the verdict upon concluding that she would not repeat the act and due to absence of any negative behavior during court proceedings.
