Russian vessel runs ashore in Istanbul due to southwesterly winds, crew waiting to be evacuated

A Russian vessel ran ashore in Istanbul's Kartal district late Friday due to strong southwesterly winds gusting up to 40 kilometers per hour.

The crew in the ship are currently awaiting to be rescued.The vessel got stranded at around 09:00 p.m. local time. Coast guards, naval police, emergency medical teams, fire squads as well as ambulances have been deployed to the site.

Temperatures fell dramatically in Turkey as a cold front from the Balkans arrived Tuesday, bringing along rain and even snow in the northwestern parts of the country.Earlier in the day, Istanbul Sea Buses (İDO) cancelled all ferry services in the Marmara Sea and outer Bosporus until further notice.
