Police are looking for suspects who opened fire on a car carrying Evliya Çalışkan, a prosecutor working at the bureau of terror and organized crime for the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's office.Çalışkan, who has been investigating major terrorism cases in Turkey, survived the attack in Istanbul's Sultangazi district on Wednesday evening while the assailants fled the scene.Three bullets hit Çalışkan's car, but police did not have any details on whether the gunmen fired from the roadside or from another vehicle passing by.

Çalışkan handles multiple cases involving terrorism. He most recently wrapped up an indictment against 29 police officers accused of having links to the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) and helping the plotters of the July 15 putsch attempt blamed on FETÖ.

Çalışkan previously worked on the case of Hrant Dink, a Turkish-Armenian journalist killed in 2007 by an ultranationalist teenager. Police chiefs linked to FETÖ were accused of covering-up the case whose trial is still underway.A few days before the shooting, Çalışkan was also working on a case against the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), whose members killed an Istanbul prosecutor in his courthouse room just last year.

He was also assigned to the case of "intelligence trucks," involving the controversial seizure of trucks belonging to the National Intelligence Directorate (MİT) in southern Turkey a few years ago. The case put the blame on FETÖ-linked security officials who stopped and searched the trucks.Moreover, Çalışkan conducted an investigation against Can Dündar and Erdem Gül, two employees of the Cumhuriyet daily charged with aiding and abetting FETÖ for publishing photos of the trucks' contents.
