Istanbul's noisiest spots pinpointed as highways

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) mapped Istanbul's nosiest spots to help with noise reduction efforts.

In a busy metropolis like Istanbul, it can be hard to find peace of mind in a city that never sleeps. According to İBB's noise map, the noisiest spots of Istanbul are in front of Şişli Vocational High School, which faces the TEM Highway, the busiest road in Istanbul and the Küçükçekme district, located close to Atatürk Airport.

As İBB's report suggests, a total of 112,714 people are exposed to excessive noise every day. In the first eight months of 2017, the municipality charged 22 people and companies for exceeding the noise limit with a TL 467,000 ($135,000) fine.
