10 PKK suspects arrested in anti-terror operation in Istanbul


Ten suspected PKK terrorists were arrested by police in an anti-terror operation carried out in Istanbul.

According to the report made by Istanbul security directorate's anti-terror branch, the operation was carried out at addresses where terrorists were training young recruits to be sent to rural areas of the country.

The 10 suspects were arrested in 19 addresses located in Avcılar, Bağcılar, Esenyurt and Güngören districts of Istanbul. Numerous documents and digital materials related to the terror organization were seized during the operation, sources reported.

After health check-ups in Haseki Education and Research Hospital, suspects were taken to the Istanbul Security Directorate.

Founded in 1978, the PKK has waged a bloody decades-long campaign against Turkey.

The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, resumed its armed campaign in July 2015 after a brief reconciliation period.

Since that time, the PKK has been responsible for the death of 1,200 security personnel and civilians, including women and children, and has injured more than 4,000 security personnel and over 2,000 civilians.
