Dolphins, seagulls fight for their prey in Istanbul’s Bosporus

Dolphins and seagulls were involved in a bitter struggle for their prey right outside of Istanbul's old city walls Friday as a school of gar fish was passing through the Bosporus.

The whole ordeal was captured on video with the city's landmarks such as the Hagia Sophia and Topkapı Palace in the background, mesmerizing its viewers.

Dolphins, moving in groups of eight to ten, started drawing circles around schools of gar fish as they came off the coast of Sarayburnu, which is the easternmost point of Istanbul's historic peninsula that also marks the entrance to the Bosporus from the south.

Using the disarray in the water to their advantage, seagulls also flocked to the area to catch the gar fish that went astray from the school and moved closer to the surface, whereas some brave ones even attempted to take away the fish from the dolphins' mouths.

Once they were full, some of the dolphins started to play with each other, offering locals and tourists a chance to snap out their cellphones and cameras to capture these beautiful moments.
