Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport staff prevents airplane collision on ground

The Turkish Ground Services (TGS) employees on Saturday prevented a collision between two airplanes on ground at Istanbul's Atatürk Airport.

A Hainan Airlines plane that was heading to the runway for take-off nearly crashed its wing into a parked Turkish Airlines (THY) jet's tail.

Just before the collision could occur, however, TGS employees who were nearby drove toward the plane, exited their car and gestured to the pilot to stop, effectively preventing a potentially horrible accident.

The Hainan Airlines jet then corrected its path and continued to taxi toward the runway.

The pilot allegedly lost the line he was supposed to follow and was taxiing on the airbridge.

Following the incident TGS General Manager Nurzat Erkal called the employees who prevented the collision, thanking them for their actions.
