PKK: HDP passing threshold is Öcalan's victory

The PKK's parent organization, the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) has released a statement on Wednesday, in which it said the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) passing the threshold is the victory of jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan's "Democratic Nation" project.

Reiterating their demand for the PKK leader to be released, KCK said the election results must be evaluated in a way where Öcalan is seen as the key figure in solving the Kurdish question.

Thanks to open support from main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) in passing the 10 percent threshold in the elections, the HDP avoid coming at odds with the PKK administration based in hideouts located in the northern Iraqi mountains.

Before the elections, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu criticized the PKK leadership for speaking on behalf of and even instead of the HDP. "It is no longer [HDP Co-Chair Selahattin] Demirtaş who speaks, but those in the Qandil Mountains. They say: 'I will determine and assign with whom we will form a coalition.' It also issues threats," Davutoğlu said. "Then we say: 'The vote cast for the HDP is one for the PKK and Qandil,' " he added.
