Selahattin Demirtaş, the co-chairman of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has said that it is impossible for the terrorist organization PKK to lay down arms, amidst tensions following the end of the ceasefire –signed back in 2013- by the terrorist organization.Demirtaş, who is accused for failing to distance itself and his party from the PKK, which is recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S., EU and Turkey has said that Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu's call for the PKK to disarm, leave the country and surrender was "impossible.""There is no chance that this will happen," Demirtaş said, who added that the Turkish government should instead say, "We are ready to halt all operations, the PKK should also silence its weapons and we are ready for a mutual ceasefire." Only then, would things get easier, according to the HDP co-chair.Demirtaş was especially criticized when he said that Turkey must dismiss the designation of PKK as a terrorist organization, despite the recent wave of attacks throughout Turkey which killed soldiers and police and injured many more. Deputies from Turkish political parties have strongly criticized the HDP's failure to recognize the PKK as a terrorist organization and condemn their terrorist attacks. For instance, HDP deputy Abdullah Zeydan has recently made provocative statements and threatened Turkey on July 27 by saying that the terrorist organization PKK has the power to "suffocate Turkey with its spit."Zeydan apologized after receiving harsh criticism for siding with and praising a terrorist organization.Federica Mogherini, the top diplomat of the 28-bloc EU had called Demirtaş on July 26 and condemned the PKK's terrorist attacks while she reiterated her call for the continuation of the reconciliation process.
