Military officials authorized to give firing orders in fight against terror

As terrorist activities are currently on the rise, following security meetings convened both by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and later by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the strategy in the fight against PKK terror has been determined, as from now on military officials are authorized to give firing orders instead of governors.

Reportedly, the practice in which a governor's permission is required for a military operation and pursuit was transferred to military officials.

According to sources, it was decided that the military and police will not be on the defensive, but will take offensive positions against terrorists after choosing to attack with roadside bombs instead of going into close combat, which has become much more destructive for them.

Especially regarding airstrikes, sources said the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) will continue to maintain the high-level warning situation and detected terrorists will be shot with howitzers deployed along the border.

Furthermore, operations in the field will be increased and comprehensive ground operations along the Turkish-Iraqi border, which is used as a crossing route with intensified activities, will be carried out.
