PKK terrorists abduct village headman, civilians in Zergele


According to a Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)-based news agency, PKK terrorists on Sunday abducted a village headman and two civilians in Zergele, Northern Iraq, after finding out that the abductees critical of the PKK spoke to media, demanding the terrorist organization remove its camps in the region. The village headman, İsmail Abdullah, along with two civilians, Selim Hıdır and Cegır Cebar, was reportedly abducted in a village near the Qandil Mountains, which is patrolled by PKK terrorists, and taken to PKK headquarters located in Enze village.Locals in the village stressed that the village headman and two civilians were abducted due to their remarks released in the press that criticized the PKK. In addition, the abductees reportedly expressed their expectations for the terrorist organization to move its camps away from where they live.The PKK had previously blamed the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) for launching an operation on Zergele on Aug. 1 and reported several civilian casualties. The TSK, however, dismissed the claims and stated a day after that the meticulous operation targeted PKK camps in the area and there were no civilian casualties confirmed by the Foreign Ministry.COUNTER-TERRORISM EFFORTSThe TSK launched air operations against PKK targets located in Sinat Haftanin, Metina regions along with Qandil Mountains in northern Iraq early Sunday. Nine F-16 fighter jets participated in the operation and destroyed hideouts, caves and underground shelters in 17 different spots.According to sources, the TSK carried out ground and air operations against the terrorist organization in Hakkari and Van provinces on Saturday. Reportedly, 36 bombs were dropped in the two separate operations.Meanwhile, in the Nusaybin district of Mardin province where curfew has been declared, nine terrorists have been killed and two civilians wounded from fire opened by terrorists, according to a written statement from the Mardin Governorate on Sunday. "Fifty-four barricades and ditches were removed," the statement further read.A remotely detonated bomb set up by the PKK killed one civilian and injured two others late Saturday in Bitlis province. Maşallah Şipallı, 25, was killed after a bomb placed inside construction equipment was detonated. Şipallı was reportedly taking food to his father who was working on the construction site. Şipalli was pronounced dead at the scene while his father, Şerif Şipallı, and one of his friends, Vasfi Gökyer, were left wounded in the attack.The PKK also abducted two soldiers in the eastern province of Tunceli on the same day. In a written statement, the TSK said the PKK blocked the Tunceli-Pulumur main road and abducted two privates from a civilian bus while they were heading to their base. *Contributed by Sena Alkan
