Locals warned of PKK traps after curfew lifted in Silopi

The curfew imposed on the Silopi district of Şırnak province has been lifted between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. as of Tuesday. The damage caused by the clashes with the PKK terrorist organization on the district has become more apparent to the locals. Although security forces have successfully carried out extensive operations in Silopi to clear streets and make sure that ditches are filled and barricades and explosives are completely removed, security officials began to make public announcements warning about possible explosives in the area in efforts to further protect the locals. In addition to the security measures for locals, a delegation from the Environment and Urbanization Ministry will reportedly visit the district soon and make assessments to overcome the damage.

The 35 day-long counterterror operations concluded successfully on Monday, and media has reported that 535 barricades have been removed and 270 ditches filled. Security forces also detonated 800 explosives and killed 136 terrorists in the counterterror operation. However, security forces have urged locals to immediately report any suspicious cable or mechanism that officials have said could be found from a heater to a refrigerator and under pillows. As a result of any report from locals, security forces will immediately respond and perform necessary measures.

Security forces have said that the PKK members in urban areas collaborate with other militants from the PKK's headquarters in Northern Iraq's Qandil Mountains and Syria where they fought for the PKK-affiliate Democratic Union Party's (PYD) armed People's Protection Unit (YPG).
