Parliament's Constitutional Committee convened for its fifth meeting on Friday, with the judiciary, National Security Council (MGK) and Council of Higher Education (YÖK) being prioritized.

The committee members from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) had previously reached an agreement to reform the MGK after the failed, July 15 Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) coup attempt. Additionally, in efforts to eliminate the Gülenist threat in the judiciary, the committee members addressed 23 articles concerning the judiciary along with removing suspected Gülenists from the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK). It is still undecided whether the Grand Chamber will remain under the Constitutional Court (AYM) or the Supreme Court of Appeals, and committee members will discuss it with party leaders and other authorities.All committee members welcomed the proposed division of the HSYK into the Supreme Board of Judges and the Supreme Board of Prosecutors. There are also some restrictions to YÖK's authority in the works. The committee is preparing a report on the process of the ongoing meetings, which will first be shown to party leaders and then be evaluated by authorities to be added under agreed subjects. The Constitutional Committee, along with four other parliamentary committees, are set to continue discussions throughout the Parliament recess next week.
