Following the unsuccessful meeting last week under the chairmanship of parliamentary Speaker İsmail Kahraman to form a joint committee to adjust bylaws to constitutional change with all the political parties, ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Group Deputy Chairman Mustafa Elitaş told an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent that new bylaws can be established with an alliance with the opposition National Movement Party (MHP). "Just like the way we established the new Constitution with the MHP, we can also establish the bylaws together. We believe that the MHP would display a positive and reasonable approach to the matter," the AK Party's Elitaş said.

Following approval of the April 16 referendum on constitutional amendments, it was announced that Parliament would go into overdrive for the next sixth months to adjust laws and parliamentary bylaws, in particular, which some have long criticized for stalling parliamentary processes and often bringing the adoption of new laws to a halt. Last week Thursday afternoon, AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Elitaş, Republican People's Party (CHP) Group Deputy Chairman Levent Gök, MHP Deputy Chairman Erkan Akçay and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Group Deputy Chairman Filiz Kerestecioğlu met with Kahraman to establish a committee on bylaws where Kahraman emphasized the necessity to adjust bylaws and all regulations.

However, while MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli "kindly" expressed his regrets to attend Kahraman's meeting, CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu "crossed the limits of politeness by targeting Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım" in his refusal statement to attend the meeting, Elitaş noted. Due to the uncompromising stance of the CHP as well as the pro-PKK HDP at the meeting, a joint committee was unable to be formed last week. On that note, the AK Party's Elitaş said that the MHP's Akçay had displayed a "reasonable and rational approach" at the meeting and stated that the AK Party and the MHP can once more form an alliance to adjust the bylaw in the scope of the new Constitution.
