MHP signals backing to AK Party in making adjustment laws

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli said that the MHP can contribute to the process of making the adjustment laws for the new executive presidential system approved in the April 16 referendum.

Responding a question regarding adjustment laws for the presidential system, Bahçeli reiterated that the MHP will support the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in its efforts to adopt adjustment laws for the new system, saying that "if the ruling party sends a resolution to us, we would contribute to the adoption of adjustment laws at the earliest by analyzing and working on the resolute."

Speaking at a reception on the occasion of the opening of the parliament, Bahçeli added that the MHP has a working group to address adjustment laws, saying that group deputy chairmen are working on adjustment laws.

Bahçeli previously drew attention to swiftly adoption of adjustment laws, as he said on Sept. 2 that "the Parliament should adopt the adjustment laws as soon as possible in order to render the presidential system stable, permanent and effective in governing Turkey and allow it to solve social, political and economic problems as of Oct. 1." He also added that the MHP will do its part. The adjustment laws are mainly concerned with the political parties' laws, local administrations law and deputy laws. It has been reported that at least 80 adjustment laws will be up for discussion.

The AK Party previously hinted at an alliance with the MHP as Group Deputy Chairman Mustafa Elitaş told an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent in Early June that new bylaws can be established with an alliance with the opposition National Movement Party (MHP). "Just like the way we established the new Constitution with the MHP, we can also establish the bylaws together. We believe that the MHP would display a positive and reasonable approach to the matter," the AK Party's Elitaş said.

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and Devlet Bahçeli met following the referendum to address adjustment laws, where Bahçeli hinted that his party would support the AK Party in the adoption of adjustment laws.
